HARTINGTON — Everyone expected a great game when two of the Top 10 Class C2 football teams in the state got together here for Thursday night’s season opener.
Nobody knew just how good that game would be, though, as Cedar Catholic put together a game-winning drive in the final 57 seconds of the contest to claim a 29-28 victory over Oakland-Craig.
Ryan Becker capped the game-tying drive with a three-yard plunge. The Trojans then went ahead when Becker scooted across the goal line on the two-point conversion. The Trojans were originally set up to kick an extra point attempt and go for the tie, but a Knight penalty moved the ball closer to the goal line, giving the Cedar coaches a chance to change the play and go for the win.
