Obituary – Lucille Heitman

Laurel — Lucille Heitman, 99 Laurel, died Oct. 13, 2012, at Park View Haven Nursing Home Coleridge.

Visitation was Oct. 15 at United Lutheran Church, Laurel.

Funeral services were Oct. 16 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Coleridge, with Rev. Katherine Russell officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were Ellen Erwin, Star Smith, Diane Lake, Sandy Chace, Verna Mae Dennis, Jo Owen, Mary Ann Christensen, Lucille’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Scott Urwiler, Greg Urwiler, Robert Patefield, Doug Olson, Gary Bottolfsen, Morris Jacobsen and Mike Jacobsen.

Interment was in Laurel Cemetery, Laurel.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Homes, Laurel.

Lucille Mae Heitman was born Feb. 21, 1913, to William Bennett and Julia Madeline (Wohlman) Puntney on a farm near Hartington. She attended Branch School District #14 in Cedar County. She helped on her parents’ farm and worked for neighboring ladies. Lucille married Arnold John Heitman April 12, 1934, at Neligh. They farmed east of Hartington, later moving to a farm southeast of Belden in 1942. In 1972, the couple moved into Laurel.

Lucille was the custodian of the Laurel City Auditorium Kitchen from 1972-2002. She kept busy doing housekeeping for numerous Laurel ladies, along with her favorite pastime of baking buns, pies, cookies and other goods for family and friends. Lucille enjoyed patching and sewing clothes for friends and quilts for her church.

She was a dedicated member of the Belden American Legion Auxiliary for 67 years, where she held the offices of President, Secretary and Chaplin. She was a member of United Lutheran Church, Laurel; the Ruth Circle; Women’s Mission Fellowship; and a volunteer at the Norfolk Veteran’s Home.

Lucille is survived by her children, Vivian Papenhausen, Coleridge; William Heitman, Laurel; Dorothy Wert, Wayne; daughter-in-law, Carol Heitman, Laurel; five grandchildren, Colleen Jeffries, Marlin Papenhausen, Debra Wert, Todd Heitman, and Troy Heitman; seven great-grandchildren, Collin Jeffries, Kelsey Papenhausen, Brady Papenhausen, Rodney Cole, Tyler Heitman, Justin Heitman, and Alexa Heitman; two great-great-grandchildren, Alana Cole and Landon Cole; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Puntney, Wausa, and Raymond and wife, Ardath Puntney, Coleridge; nieces and nephews.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold Nov. 8, 1993; six brothers, Edward, Ralph, William, Robert, Floyd and Wendell Puntney; two sisters, Viola Mac Knight and Helen Vock; two sons-in-law, Curtis Papenhausen and Ronald Wert, in 2003; a son, Roger, in 2008; and one great-grand daughter, Christa Jeffries, in 1995.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
