LAUREL — James Dean Kirkpatrick, 75, died Aug. 29, 2012, at the Providence Medical Center, Wayne. Visitation was Saturday, prior to services, at the United Presbyterian Church, Laurel.
Services were Sept. 1 at the United Presbyterian Church, Laurel, with Pastor Dennis Hett officiating.
The Laurel Legion Post presented military rites at the church.
Thompson Chapel Funeral Home, Wakefield, was in charge of arrangements.
James, who preferred to be called Jim, was born Nov. 19, 1936, to parents Dale D. and Inez Caswell Kirkpatrick, at Ainsworth, and lived there until he graduated from high school in 1954. He attended Doane College, Crete, for one year. He then joined the Air Force, serving his country until his 20-year retirement. Jim was stationed in California, Germany, Thailand, Oklahoma and Louisiana. He then worked for Burroughs, Unisys, and Gateway.
In 1962, Jim married Lissi Guide in Germany. They had three children, James, Susan and Sonya. Lissi is deceased.
In 1981, he married Jacqueline Miller Allvin at Norfolk. They lived at Norfolk; Sioux City, Iowa; Sioux Falls, S.D.; traveled three years throughout the United States; had a home in Coolidge, Ariz.; and last, resided in Laurel.
Jim was a loving, kind, humorous, boyish and special person, with 31 years of sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie; son, James, and wife, Donna Kirkpatrick, Arlington, Texas; daughter, Susan, and husband, Jimmy Pogue, Bossier City, La.; and stepchildren and spouses, Joann and Bob Heckman, Plattsmouth; Jim and Dianne Allvin, Carroll; Jeralyn and Dan Gueven, Bolling Green, Ky.; Jody and Ken Faith, Weaubleau, Mo.; Joe and Jill Allvin, Wakefield; Julie Gershon and friend, Bob Larsen, Osmond; Jill and Jeff Church, Knoxville, Tenn.; 31 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; two brothers and spouses, Don and Rosie Kirkpatrick, Monmouth, Ore., and Carroll and Brenda Kirkpatrick, Perris, Calif.; and two sisters, Sharyl Linse, Springview, and Marcene and Pat Roy, Buena Park, Calif.
Jim is preceded in death by parents; one daughter, Sonya; step-daughter, Jeanette Allvin; grandsons, Josh Gershon and Keith Faith; son-in-law, Philip Gershon; and two great-grandchildren.
