Wayne — Donald D. Hansen, 87, Wayne, died March 26, 2012, at Providence Medical Center, Wayne.
Visitation was March 28 at Hasemann Funeral Home, Wayne.
Funeral services were March 29 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Wayne, with Rev. Bob Oleson officiating.
Pallbearers were Donald’s grandchildren Thomas Hansen, Jessica Nelson, Melissa Engel, Trisha Peters, Amy Thelen, Dale Hansen, Kevin Starkey and Heather Starkey.
Interment was at the Wisner City Cemetery, Wisner.
Donald Duane Hansen was born April 14, 1924, at Wisner, to Peter and Lillian and Schulz Hansen. He attended District 40 near Wisner and graduated from Wisner High School in 1941. Don served in the United States Marines as a Private First Class from May 11, 1944-May 11, 1946, in Okinawa, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Donald married Irene Engelbart June 26, 1951, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Creston. The couple farmed in Wayne and Cuming counties from 1951-1990. They moved into Wayne in 1977.
Donald was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, serving on the church council; and was a lifetime member of the Wisner V.F.W. and Wayne V.F.W.
Donald is survived by his wife, Irene; their children and spouses, Timothy and Mary Hansen, Wisner; Sheryl and Fred Kalin, Coleridge; and Bonnie and and Charles Starkey, Norfolk; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Thomas Hansen and fiancé, Sandra Rivera, and her son, Anthony, Wayne; Melissa and Rob Engel, Erin and Ryan, Randolph; Trisha and Timothy Peters, Wisner; Jessica and John Nelson, Jed and Jacy, Maskell; Amy and Jeff Thelen, Norfolk; Dale and Brooke Hansen, Wayne; Kevin Starkey, Norfolk; and Heather Starkey, Norfolk; brothers, Forrest Hansen, Wisner, and Larry and wife, Lorraine Hansen, Norfolk; nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dale; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
