ST. HELENA — Dean Bruening, 67, St. Helena, died Aug. 16, 2012, at the Avera Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Visitation and a Vigil Service were Aug. 19 at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church, St. Helena, and continued one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 20 at the Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church, St. Helena, with Rev. Eric Olsen officiating.
Burial was in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, St. Helena.
Pallbearers were Craig Bruening, Mitchell Bruening, Chris Bruening, Matt Bruening, Jody Pinkelman, Colton Thomas, Kevin Bruening and Jeff Tramp.
The Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, was in charge of arrangements.
Dean was born Aug. 14, 1945, at Yankton, S.D., to Paul and Helen (Schmidt) Bruening. He grew up and lived and farmed on the Bruening home place all of his life. He attended Yankton High School. Dean and Laurie Kennedy were married Nov. 18, 1978, at Yankton. He enjoyed fixing all kinds of machinery for his friends and neighbors and spending time near the river. His true enjoyment came from spending time with his family and his four grandkids.
Dean was a member of the Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church, St. Helena.
Dean is survived by his wife, Laurie, St. Helena; four children and families, Sara and Oscar Garcia and their son Andrew Dean, Gretna; Jessica and Darren Retzlaff and their children, Kobie, Alecia and Madalynn, Columbus; Bryan Bruening, St. Helena; Joseph Bruening, St. Helena; three brothers and wives, Robert and Mary Bruening, Yankton, S.D.; Richard and Sue Bruening, St. Helena; Duane and Donna Bruening, St. Helena; three sisters, Carol Thomas, Omaha; Sharon Tramp, Yankton, S.D.; Sandra and husband, Jerry Pinkelman, Yankton, S.D.; and a sister-in-law, Renae Bruening, Crofton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary Bruening; two brothers-in-law, John Tramp and Gary Thomas; and a nephew, Scott Bruening.
