Wildcats claim another track title

Hartington Public’s Bryan Dunn winds up to throw the discus during action in last week’s Crofton Invitational. Dunn turned in one of his best performances of the year at the event to earn a fourth-place finish with his throw of 113’9”. He also earned a silver medal in the shot put at the meet.

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Wildcats had little trouble in their quest for a third straight track title.
The Wildcats beat Crofton here last week by 89 points to win the seven-team Crofton Invitational.
Randolph finished the meet in third place, while Cedar Catholic garnered fourth-place honors and Wynot finished sixth.

Neil Kramer and Chad Miller both won three golds for Hartington at the meet.
Kramer claimed top honors in the two hurdles events and in the triple jump, but had to settle for second place to Randolph’s Clinton Lackas in the high jump.
Hartington’s Chad Miller picked up a pair of golds in the sprints and won the pole vault competition.
Adam Hochstein also earned gold in two events, winning the 400-meter dash and the 1,600 meter run.
Pat Wortmann topped the field in the 3,200 run for the Wildcats.
Hartington also earned gold in the 4×100 and 4×800 meter relay races. Hartington Coach Blair Kalin said his squad turned in a great effort.
“I was real happy with the performances of our kids,” Kalin said.
Several athletes turned in season bests at the meet, he said.
“Bryan Dunn is improving in the shot put, earning a second place medal. Our depth on the track has been real consistent for us. We need some good weather to improve our times,” Kalin said.
Cedar was led by Frank Herbolsheimer and Logan Weinandt. Herbolsheimer took silver in the pole valut, while Weinandt was second in the discus.
The Cedar 4×400 relay team also earned a silver medal. The team of Taylor Kathol, Frank Herbolsheimer, Jordan Anderson and Logan Weinandt crossed the finish line just behind  Randolph and just ahead of HPS.
