HARTINGTON — Hartington opened the 2011 golf season at the Plainview Invitational here last week.
Hartington’s squad is led this yer by senior Zach Hamilton, a two-time letter-winner. Hamilton earned several medals last year, including a fourth-place medal at the Lewis and Clark Conference meet.
Other Hartington team members are: junior Alex Heithold, sophomore Aaron Hamilton, freshman Trey Morten and freshman Ethan Steiner.
“We have a group that is very coachable,” said veteran Hartington Coach Ken Kneifl. They want to do well and they do whatever is asked of them. We also look like the type of team that should be able to keep penalty strokes to a minimum.”
The Wildcats were led in last week’s season-opener by Hamilton, who fired a 43 on the day to finish in seventh place.
Plainview put three golfers under 40 to earn the win with a 152 team score. Mitchell Klooz and Sam Meuret each shot 36 to lead Plainview. Bret Springer shot 39 and Riley Meuret carded a 41 as the Pirates claimed the top four individual spots.
The Wildcat team will be in action again Thursday when they travel south to the Laurel Invitational. The team will head west next, competing at the Osmond Invite on April 21 and at the O’Neill Invitational on April 21.
