HARTINGTON — Omaha Archdiocese Supt. of Schools Msgr. James Gilg was on hand Wednesday as the new Holy Trinity pre-school was officially dedicated.

Omaha Archdiocese Bishop George Lucas was on hand, as well as Holy Trinity pastor Father Jeff Loeske, Msgr. Cyril Werner and former Holy Trinity Pastor Father John Pietramale.

HARTINGTON — Monica Bohlken, age 82 of Hartington, Nebraska, died on Monday, September 14, 2009 at Brookstone Meadows in Elkhorn, Nebraska.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 10:30 am at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with Rev Jeffery Loseke officiating.  Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Hartington.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

COLERIDGE — Alvin L. Roth, 79 of Coleridge, Nebraska died on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at his residence.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Coleridge with the Rev. Gary Kimm officiating.  Burial will be in the Coleridge City Cemetery.   Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

STANTON — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans turned some heads at the Stanton Tournament Saturday.

The Cedar girls upset Laurel-Concord in first-round action, then topped West Point-Beemer in semifinal round action to set up a title showdown with Battle Creek.

COLERIDGE — The Hartington Wildcats Friday  avenged a one-point 2008 loss to the Coleridge Bulldogs.

The two teams battled neck and neck for three quarters, but the Cats put together a 22-point fourth quarter scoring burst to claim the win.

The Cats got on the board first when junior running back Chad  Miller broke free of the Bulldog defense to rip off a 62-yard touchdown run. Mason Miller tossed the ball to Nathan McPhilips for the two-point conversion, giving the Cats an 8-0 lead with 5:36 left in the first quarter.

PLAINViEW – Chad Koch broke the Cedar Catholic career rushing record with a 74-yard TD run here Friday.
Koch entered the game only needing 31 yards to break Preston Leise’s all time mark of 3,772 yards.
Koch’s 208-yard rushing performance helped Cedar earn a lopsided 47-7 win.

The victory avenges a double overtime loss to the Pirates in last year’s quarterfinal round of the playoffs.

HARTINGTON – The Hartington Wildcats used a balanced attack to earn a 34-18 non District win over West Boyd here Friday.
The win marks the second year in a row the Cats have opened the season at 2-0. The Cat offense took awhile to uncork Friday, but Mason Miller eventually got things moving.
On their second series of the night Hartington put together a seven-play scoring drive.

HARTINGTON — Thomas Schumacher and Dana Fuelberth were crowned as the Hartington High School Homecoming King and Queen during coronation ceremonies here Thursday.

The couple was the 58th duo in school history to wear the Homecoming crowns.

HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic will try to do something Saturday they’ve rarely been able to accomplish before
The Trojans will try to claim their third straight victory over West Point Central Catholic.
In the 53-year history of the series between the two teams Cedar has only been able to win three straight times over the Blue Jays on one occasion. In fact, Cedar has had trouble winning at all against the Jays as WPCC holds a 17-12 edge over the Trojans in the series.

NIOBRARA — The Hartington boys conquered the competition to earn top honors at the Niobrara State Park cross country meet Thursday.
Hartington posted a team score of 44 to out-distance Neligh-Oakdale for the title.
Hartington’s top two finishers on the day were Jordan Rehnstrom and Steven Carlson, who medaled by finishing the meet in seventh and eighth place, respectively.
