HARTINGTON  — A local man is being recognized for his dedication to the Hartington Municipal Airport which is located approximately one mile south of Hartington.
Bud Becker has played an important role in Hartington having an airport according to Dr. Roger Filips who is a board member for the Hartington Airport Authority.

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Municipal Airport will be buzzing with planes and other activities Sunday, Aug. 23.
Pancakes will be piled high by seven a.m. for the Holy Trinity Fly-in Breakfast and the afternoon will feature an Air Show sponsored by Becker Flying Service.
There will also be a dedication ceremony to honor a man who has been part of the history of the airport since its beginnings.

HARTINGTON  — The last steps of the Courthouse renovation and addition are moving ahead.
The Courthouse building, which was constructed in 1892, has been emptied of desks, files and equipment and work has begun on up-dating the building.
The Courthouse will be ready for offices to move back in before the end of the year.
“The work should be done by the end of November,” said Cedar County Clerk Dave Dowling.

COLERIDGE — Coleridge resident Mike Dirks, who has been charged with first-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats and use of a firearm to commit a felony, may be arraigned in Cedar County Court during the first part of September.
A tentative date for Dirks’ appearance has been set for 1:30 p.m., Sept 2.

Russ Hochstein is traded to Denver
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Russ Hochstein was traded Tuesday to the Denver Broncos, the Boston Globe website reported.
Hochstein has picked up two Super Bowl rings as a member of the New England Patriots since 2002. He has started in 18 games for the Patriots, including two Super Bowls.
According to Hochstein’s agent, Joe Linta, confirmed the trade, saying the NFL veteran from Hartington, was traded for a late-round draft pick.
Linta said Hochstein was surprised by the news, but said that Denver was a great landing spot for him, because of its proximity to his home state and because he his familiar with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels, the Patriots former offensive coordinator.

WAKEFIELD — Cinderella’s slipper made for a perfect fit for the Hartington Bankers amateur baseball team.
The local team completed the regular season with an average 8-7 season record and were only able to claim runner-up honors in the District finals.
The Bankers proved to be much more than average, though, as they cruised past the competition last weekend to claim the State Class B State title, ending the season with a 14-8 record.
This marks the second time in the last three years the Hartington team has played for the state title in the fledgling Nebraska State Baseball Association.

Coleridge SWAT Call Leads to Suspect Arrest

COLERIDGE — A Coleridge, Nebraska is in jail after a more than five hour standoff with authorities following a domestic disturbance.
Shortly after 9 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 12, Cedar County Dispatch received a call of a domestic disturbance involving a weapon at a residence southeast of Coleridge, in Cedar County, Nebraska.

HARTINGTON  — Historical accounts of the Pleasant Valley area have been captured on video.
Several people have shared memories of some pleasant times that occurred at the corner where Highways 81 and 84 cross west of Hartington.
In 2001, Rod Kinkaid, who currently lives in Texas, started interviewing some of the old-timers who lived in the Pleasant Valley area.

WYNOT — The steering committee for the Rural Community Development Initiative (RCDI) Grant met at City Hall in Wynot last Wednesday.
Volunteers from the communities of Fordyce, Hartington and Wynot are coordinating ideas to develop some opportunities for the Northern Cedar County area.
These opportunities are targeted to enhance quality of life through leadership development, community-to-community networking, fostering small business, youth engagement and return of young families to Northern Cedar County.
