HARTINGTON — Hartington’s cardiac kids did  it again.

The Hartington American Legion Juniors won with a seventh inning rally for the third straight time Sunday afternoon to advance to the Tournament title game.

Hartington will now play Pender at 5 p.m. Monday at Felber Park. If Hartington wins that contest, they would have to play Pender again at 7 p.m.

HARTINGTON — The Cedar County Fair had one of its largest crowds ever Satuday night when the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band played in front of an overflow audience.

The Band  showed its instrumenal expertise as it played hits from their 43-year career.

Mr. Bojangles, Fishing in the Dark, Make A Little Magic and Cadilac Ranch all brought the crowd to their feet.

HARTINGTON — Hartington put together a late inning rally to earn a 10-9 win over Wisner-Pilger Saturday in Class C Area 2 District Tournament action.
The game was a see-saw battle all the way through.
Wisner put together a 6-5 lead and then put up three more in the sixth inning to claim a 9-5 advantage.
Hartington never gave up, though, loading the bases several times before finally earning the win.

HARTINGTON – Pender threw the final knock out punch in a heavyweight title bout here Friday.

Top-seeded Pender was sent to the mat with a sixth-inning, eight-run Hartington rally, but the Pender team came back to earn the 12-11 win   in extra innings.

HARTINGTON — Hartington withstood a first-inning Dodge-Scribner- Howells home run to earn a 9-5 first-round win in the Class C Area 2 District Baseball Tournament here Thursday.

Aaron Steffen led Hartington’s offense in the contest, going 3-4 on the night, scoring one run and driving in two more.
Mitchell Bruening picked up the complete game win for Hartington, striking out five along the way.

HARTINGTON — The first round of the Class C Area 2 District Junior American Legion Tournament here was filled with upsets.
Mother Nature started the day by upsetting tournament organizers and the tournament schedule with a half-inch rain Thursday morning.
The rains pushed the start of the tourney back by two hours.
The first game of the tourney was an even bigger upset as second-seeded Stanton was defeated by seventh-seeded Laurel-Coleridge 11-4. The victory pushed L-C into Friday afternoon’s 4:30 game.
The second game of the night fetured another upset as sixth-seeded Ponca-Newcastle defeated Wisner-Pilger 11-10. Ponca and Laurel will now play in Friday’s 4:30 p.m. game.
Thursday’s nightcap featured an exciting dual between fourth-seeded Hartington and fifth-seeded Dodge-Howells-Scribner.
Hartington exploded in the seventh inning to plate four runs and seal a 9-5 win over the visitors from the south.

HARTINGTON The Laurel American Legion Juniors upset second-seeded Stanton 11-4 in the Class C Area 2 District Baseball Tounament here.

The win puts Laurel into second-round action Friday afternoon against Ponca-Newcastle.

Laurel took a 2-0 lead over Stanton in the second frame, then bouncd back from a fifth-inning Stanton comeback to regain the lead and earn the 11-4 win.

Clint Wemhoff earned the win for the Laurel-Coleridge team.

HARTINGTON — Early morning rains Thursday pushed the start of Thursday’s American Legion District Tournament back a bit.
The opening game originally set for 2 p.m. has been moved to 4:30 p.m. The second game of the night will then start at 7 pm. and the finale between Hartington and Dodge-Scribner-Snyder will be around 9 p.m.
Hartington American Legion Post 4 will host the Class C Area 2 American Legion Junior Baseball
District Tournament here starting on Thursday.
The seven-team tournament features a double-elimination format.
Besides Hartington, the tournament will also feature perennial powerhouse Dodge-Scribner-Snyder, Laurel-Coleridge, Pender, Ponca-Newcastle, Stanton and Wisner-Pilger.
Pender is the top-seeded team in the District and will get a first-round bye.
Hartington is seeded fourth in the District. The winner of the Hartington-Dodge game will take on Pender in the 7 p.m. game on Friday.
The tournament opens Thursday with second-seeded Stanton taking on seventh-seeded Laurel-Coleridge. The 7 p.m. game will feature third-seeded Wisner-Pilger against sixth-seeded Ponca.

HARTINGTON — Hartington’s  8-4 record earned the local team a top seed in post-season action.
Hartington will compete in the Class C Area 2 District Tournament at Dodge beginning July 21. Hartington will play the first game of the tourney when they take on Laurel-Coleridge at 5 p.m. July 21 .
One other Cedar County team, Randolph, will also compete in the tourney. Randolph and Hartington have split in games this year and are considered two of the top teams in the tourney.
The tourney winner will compete at the State tourney at West Point.

HARTINGTON — A Thursday morning storm here flooded roads and wiped out crops.
Over two inches of rain fell in northern Cedar County around 8 a.m. Thursday. Hail ranging from tennis ball size to golf ball size also decimated area fields, bringing an end to hopes for a good harvest.
