HARTINGTON — High winds, hail and rain ripped through the Hartington area Thursday night, ripping out trees and causing damage.

webaftermath-of-windstorm-cedar-street-sign Winds of up to 80 miles an hour tore through the area between 4:30 and 6 a.m. Thursday. The high winds knocked down several trees and large tree branches and temporarily knocked out power to homes and businesses.

One tree branch came down on top of the Brad Kussel home in Hartington, waking the family up as it crashed through their roof and into their bedroom.

Utility workers and other people worked throughout the day moving trees, cutting branches and cleaning up the mess.
