CROFTON — The Crofton American Legion Juniors withstood a late Hartington rally to earn a 6-5 win here Friday.
Crofton took advantage of a hit batter and three Hartington errors to take a 1-0 lead after the first frame of Friday’s contest.

Hartington took advantage of some Crofton mistakes in the field and on the pitching mound to knot the score at 1-1 in the second inning.

Nick Uhing reached base on a fielding error, then stole second. Kellyn Dump walked and Ross Hegge was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Uhing then came home on Frank Herbolsheimer’s RBI sacrafice to tie the game. Hartington again loaded the bases when Keenan Sudbeck also drew a walk, but Crofton got the next Hartington batter to strike out, stranding all three to limit the  damage.

Hartington plated two more runs in their half of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Cody Stappert got the offense started with a lead-0ff single. Nick Uhing then smacked an RBI double to deep left field to drive in Stappert. Kellyn Dump’s RBI single then plated Uhing.

Crofton earned one hit and took advantage of four Hartington errors in their half of the inning to plate two more runs to knot the game at 3-3.

Neither team could muster any offense in the fourth frame, but Crofton took advantage of more Hartington errors and erratic pitching to plate two more in the fifth frame to claim a 5-3 advantage.

Hartington rallied to tie the game in the final frame, thanks to singles by Kellyn Dump, Frank Herbolsheimer and Keenan Sudbeck.  Ty Uhing’s single then drove in Dump and Tyler Loberg’s fielder’s choice drove in Herbolsheimer to knot the game at 5-5.

Crofton earned a walk, reached base on an error and singled to deep left field for the walk-off win.

Keenan Sudbeck started the contest for Hartington and struck out four before giving way to Cody Stappert and Mitchell Breuning.
