LINCOLN — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans earned the sixth seed in the Class C2 State Tournament slated to tip off here Thursday.

The Lady Trojans will take on third-seeded David City Aquinas in a 10:45 a.m. game Thursday at Lincoln Northeast.

The winner of that game will then play at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Pershing Auditorium against either Concordia or second-seeded Perkins County.

This year’s  C2 State Championship game will be played at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The win puts the Lady Trojans in the State Tournament for the first time since finishing as the C2 state runner-up in 2001.

The Cedar offense was paced by senior Kala Sudbeck, who dropped in a game-high 16 points.

HARTINGTON — The state tournament bids for three area basketball teams will be decided next week.

Cedar Catholic will take on Plainview at 7 p.m. Monday at Norfolk Public High School. The winner will advance to the Class C2 State Tournament.

Hartington High School will take on Humphrey St. Francis at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Northeast Community College. The winner will advance to the Class D1 state tournament.

O’NEILL — The Hartington Wildcats are now one win away from the State Basketball Tournament.

The Wildcats earned an easy 57-44 win over North Central here Thursday in the D1-8 SubDistrict title game.

The Wildcats, 19-2,  will now take on Humphrey St. Francis for the right to advance to the state tournament for the first time since finishing as the Class C runnerup in 1980.

Humphrey St. Francis is  17-4 on the year. The Flyers finished last season as the Class D1 state runner-up.

WAYNE — The Cedar Catholic Trojans knocked off State-rated Ponca 55-53 here Thursday to earn the SubDistrict C2-7 title.

Cedar will now take on Plainview in the District title game for  the right to advance to the state basketball tournament.

Ponca took control early Thursday, and the Trojans were forced to dig themselves out of a big hole. At one point in the first half, the Trojans were down by 11 points. At the halftime break the Trojans were down by nine points — 29-20.

HARTINGTON — The National FFA Organization is celebrating National FFA Week this week.
The week will be full of activities for the Hartington FFA Chapter. The fun will be kicked off Monday with Game Day. The students will answer FFA trivia throughout the day and participate in cow races on the Wii game system. Tuesday the chapter will hold an Ugliest Boots Contest and State Officer Susie Fiala, Milford, will visit the students. Wednesday, members are to wear FFA t-shirts to school. Read The Full Story…

NORFOLK —  The Cedar Catholic Trojans put a big scare into the Norfolk Catholic Knights here Friday, before falling 58-50.
Cedar took control of the contest from the opening tip, racing out to a 15-11 first-quarter lead over the Knights.
