Wynot — In boys action Thursday, the Wynot recovered from a slow start to earn a 59-40 win over Elkhorn Valley.
Justin Boeckman came off the bench to take scoring honors for Wynot with 12 points and eight rebounds. Michael Wieseler hit a trey on his way to 11 points.
Elkhorn Valley got a game-high 24 points from Zach Bennett and Seth Heggenmeyer added 10 points to the Falcon totals.
Defense and cold shooting dominated the first quarter. A pair of baskets by Zach Bennett knotted the score at 6-6 after one period.
The Devils got their offense in gear in the second frame thanks to eight Justin Boeckman points and a pair of Curtis Kathol jumpers, as they went on a 15-7 run to build a 21-13 halftime lead.
Michael Wieseler stepped up with seven points and a Ryan Heimes three-pointer helped the Devils build on their lead, taking a 37-23 lead to start the final frame.
Elkhorn Valley rallied in the final quarter behind 10 points by Zach Bennett and a Tyler Osborn trey but Wynot was up to the challenge as Ryan Boeckman connected for four points and 12-17 shooting from the charity stripe down the stretch squashed the Falcon comeback.
