HARTINGTON — The Coleridge Lady Bulldogs refused to lose in Thursday’s SubDistrict title game here.
With just 7.7 seconds left on the clock, Taylor Olsen nailed an 18-foot jumper to complete Coleridge’s comeback and hand Wausa a 33-32 season-ending defeat.
Coleridge took control of the contest from the opening tip, building a 9-4 first-quarter lead. The Lady Vikings caught fire in the second frame, limiting Coleridge to just six second-quarter points, while putting up 13 of their own, including a three-pointer to take the lead at the buzzer. Wausa’s surge gave the Purple Pride a 17-15 halftime lead
Coleridge struggled after that as post player Kelsey Papenhausen was forced to the bench with foul trouble.
Olsen led the Coleridge offense with 13 points on the night. Wausa was led by its twin towers, Savannah Wakeley and Brittany Rosberg with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Coleridge now has one more obstacle to hurdle on its journey toward the State Class D2 Girls Basketball Tournament. The Lady Blue will take on Lynch Feb. 19 in the District title game. The winner qualfies for the state tourney.
Coleridge 9 6 4 14 – 33
