HARTINGTON — People who may have objections or concerns about the way local governments spend their tax dollars will soon have a chance to air those concerns.
All local taxing entities have scheduled budget hearings.
That means all area school boards, village boards, city councils, the NRD, Ag Society and even the County and local Airport Authority, will hold public meetings this month.
The Hartington Public School Board has set its budget hearing on a proposed $5.8 million budget for Sept. 15
The city of Hartington will hold its budget hearing on Sept. 8. The city is proposing a $2.3 million budget. This is about $320,00 more than what was actually spent by the city in the 2007-08 fiscal year.
Cedar County has set its Budget Hearing for 11 a.m. on Sept. 9. The county is considering a record $12.3 million budget. The county spent $6.7 million in the 2007-08 fiscal year.
Much of the proposed increased has to do with the courthouse expansion and renovation project.

The governmental entities are required by law to publish the notices to give area residents a better understanding of how tax dollars are being spent and a chance to comment on how their tax dollars are being spent.
