HARTINGTON —  The laughter was never-ending here Saturday.
Over 200 people turned out for a retirement party at the Hartington Club House to honor Joan Burney.
Burney, who turns 80 later this week, said long ago she planned to quit writing her weekly Cedar County News column when she became an octogenerian.
She began her writing career in 1968 when former editor Vern Borerer asked her to fill in for her once in awhile.
She picked up the challenge with gusto. Her column first appeared in the Cedar County News, but over the years her work has regularly appeared in the Norfolk Daily News, Sioux City Journal, Omaha World Herald, and the Missouri Valley Observer, as well as several farm magazines.

HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic’s 2008 defensive unit has finished the regular season ranked as one of the stingiest in school history.
The 2008 Trojans allowed just  70 points during eight regular season games this year. That ranks in 10th place on the all-time list in Holy Trinity-Cedar Catholic football history.
