WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield Trojans walked away from Friday night’s District showdown with a 7-0 win Friday.

Ian Minor carried the Wakefield offense with 130 rushing yards.

Cedar’s offense struggled on the night, thanks to the speedy Wakefield ‘D’.

Cedar All State running back Chad Koch was held to under 100 yards for only the second time in his varsity career in the game. The first time that had happened was in a 7-0 season-ending loss in the state semifinal game against Wakefield.

MACY — The Hartington Wildcats rolled to an easy 61-24 win in their District opener over Omaha Nation here Friday.

The game was speeded up because of the 35-point rule. Hartington was able to give its reserves a lot of playing time in the contest.

HARTINGTON — Pat and Patti Guy were the big winners in the Cedar Catholic raffle for a 2008 Ford Mustang.

The Hartington couple had their name called out of a barrel filled with over 700 entries for the $40,000  raffle prize during halftime of Friday’s Cedar Catholic Homecoming game.

Proceeds from the raffle will go toward a new heating and cooling system at the school.

HARTINGTON — Luke Stevens and Melanie Leise were named Friday as the Cedar Catholic Homecoming 2008 King and Queen.

The couple was crowned during coronation ceremonies prior to the Homecoming dance.

HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic Trojans walked away from a defensive battle with a 12-6 win over Plainview to move to 3-0 on the year.

Cedar Catholic, rated fifth in the state by Huskerland Prep Report, used a strong Chad Koch ground attack to defeat the third-ranked Pirates of Plainview.

Koch rushed for 140 yards on 25 carries in the contest, marking the 15th straight time the  Cedar Catholic junior has carried the ball for at least 100 yards in a game.

HARTINGTON — The Coleridge Bulldogs used a couple of big passing plays and the strong running attack provided by Tyler Hefner to earn a 14-13 upset win over Hartington here Thursday.

LINCOLN — Dan Hoesing, superintendent at Laurel-Concord, Newcastle and Wynot Public Schools and Coleridge Community Schools is one of four finalists for State Education Commissioner.

Hoesing, 51, comes from a family of educators.  He started his teaching career in 1980 as a physical education teacher and coach at Elkhorn Valley.  He taught for eight years before becoming a principal at Coleridge.  Hoesing has been a superintendent since 1994.  He holds a doctorate from the University of South Dakota.
Hoesing, who lives in Laurel, has simultaneously served as superintendent of four districts for about a year.
Hoesing compares his reason to apply for commissioner with his first move from teaching in the classroom to administration:  “It all comes down to the responsibility of and opportunity to impact more kids.”

HARTINGTON — The levy for Hartington Public School dropped for the 2008-09 school budget.
The Hartington School has one of the lowest proposed levies among area schools according to Business Manager Julie Schrieber.
Board members passed a resolution to set the total levy at .833467 which is down from last years levy of .943074.

HARTINGTON  —  Hartington Public and Cedar Catholic schools will go one step further with cooperative programs in sports.
Hartington Public School Board members gave their approval for the two schools to co-op with cross country starting in the 2009-2010 school year. Earlier this year, the schools agreed to work together on a wrestling program.
The wrestling team will compete in Cedar Catholic uniforms. The cross country team will compete in Hartington Public uniforms.

HARTINGTON — Coleridge residents along with those in the surrounding rural area who have phone service with the Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company (NNTC) will soon have the option of enhanced pictures and a choice of many more channels on their TVs.
Anyone with a 283 prefix on their telephone number will soon have the option to subscribe to TV programs through NNTC said General Manager Emery Graffis.
“The Signal will come in over existing telephone lines – no dish is required to be on their house,” Graffis said.

Wynot girls move to 4-0 on the year

WYNOT — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils improved to 4-0 on the year with a pair of wins last week.
Wynot defeated Allen in three straight sets Tuesday then defeated Hurley, S.D. in thre on Thursday.
Against Allen, the Lady Devils took control early, defeating the Lady Eagles 25-11 in the first set. The Lady Devils then earned a pair of 25-18 wins to claim the match.
