HARTINGTON — Area youth will soon be providing a nostalgic alternative out under the stars to sitting in front of a TV and DVD player.
Members of LEAP (Leaders Energizing Activities in Partnership) are returning the drive-in movie concept to Hartington after a 35-year absence.
The movie “Disturbia” will be shown at the Cedar County Fairgrounds on Friday, June 27.
At the peak of the late 1950s heyday for America’s outdoor cinema there were more than 40 drive-in movie screens operating in Nebraska. Since that time 93 percent of them have gone dark or have been demolished. Currently, only three remain in operation in Nebraska; Alliance, Kearney and Neligh.

HARTINGTON — It has been over a year since a lodging tax was put into place by a vote of the Cedar County Commissioners.
There is now close to $2,800 that has been received since the lodging tax went into effect in April of 2007.
A three percent tax is collected from people who stay at motels, hotels, bed and breakfasts and camp sites.

HARTINGTON — The city of Hartington has brought in just over $88,000 in sales taxes in the six months since the city began collecting the new tax.
This figure is right on target with  estimates provided by the State Dept. of Revenue in January, 2007 prior to the election.
At an informational meeting here in January, 2007, Revenue Dept. personnell estiamted the city could generate between $150,000 and $200,000 annually.

COLERIDGE — The final planning stages for the Coleridge Q125 celebration are underway here, and the town is sprucing up in preparation.
The Q125 Committee, headed up by Co-Chairpersons Jacie Burbach and Sally Schroeder, has been working for nearly two years to put together a birthday celebration for the community that will long be remembered. The big event is set for July 4-6.

WYNOT — The Wynot Expos suffered their first setbacks of the 2008 season last week,
Wynot is now 16-2 on the year.
The Expos fell 11-1 at Freeman June 10, but bounced back to beat Tabor 13-1 here Thursday.

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Senior American Legion baseball team finally got on track Saturday.
After struggling to an 0-5 start on the season, the team finally collected its first win here Saturday with a decision over Neligh.

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Pony league baseball team moved to 5-0 with a pair of wins last week.
The local team earned a win over Wayne Tuesday and defeated Fordyce 7-4 Thursday.
The team was slated to play in South Sioux City Monday night.
Keenan Sudbeck, Tyler Loberg and Kellyn Dump paced the offense for the Hartington team.

CROFTON — The Hartington 14-and-under girls softball team walked away from the league tournament Sunday with the championship trophy.
Hartington defeated Fordyce 11-2 then knocked off Crofton 7-3 in second-round action.
The local team then played Crofton again in the title game, earning the 9-1 win.

Hartington fell to Crofton, 9-4, in the championship game.
The Hartington team advanced to the finals with a 7-4 opening-round win over Bloomfield. Hartington then handed Fordyce a 14-2 four-inning setback before meeting up with Crofton in the quarterfinals.

HARTINGTON — Hundreds of Hartington and Coleridge area residents came out to the Skylon Ballroom Sunday for a farewell party for Father John Pietramale.

Pietramale has served the two parishes for seven years. He will be taking on a new assignment in Omaha later this month.
