NEWMAN GROVE ? The Hartington High Wildcats ran into a tough front line at Newman Grove Friday and dropped their opening football contest, 43-20. Freshman Dylan Steinhoff started at the helm for the Wildcats. Steinhoff was pressed into duty when senior Nathan Koch suffered a knee injury during Fall practice. The Newman Grove Bluejays found the end zone first on a 20-yard run by Cody Nelson. The PAT run failed and Newman Grove took a 6-0 lead. The Wildcats answered back with a 74-yard kick-off return by Tom Fischer. The PAT failed and the score was knotted at 6-6. Newman Grove hit pay dirt again in the first quarter on a six-yard C. Nelson run and K. Nelson ran in the PAT to give the Bluejays a 14-6 lead at the end of the initial quarter of play. The Wildcats struggled moving the football in the second quarter and their opponent gained confidence in running the ball, according to Coach Blair Kalin.
