PONCA — The Hartington-Newcastle track teams are reaping the rewards of patience and hard work.

“We really rose to the occasion Saturday,” Hartington boys’ coach Dylan Behnk said. “A few athletes were put in different events than normal, they did so, not only willingly, but enthusiastically. I think that speaks volumes about our athletes’ eagerness to compete and do what is best overall for the team.”

Cole Rosener won a couple of gold medals in the meet with a first in the 200 in 23.48 and a first in the long jump with a leap of 20-feet-10-inches and also placed fourth in the 400.

Will Feilmeier was fifth in the 100, and sixth in the 200.

Mason Krause sailed 19-01.50 to take third in the long jump.

“Mason did a great job getting his personal best,” Behnk said. “And Cole continues too impress winning both events.”

Rosener also ran a leg in the Wildcats’ 4X100 relay team, along with Kale Korth, Feilmeier and Maximus McCray to grab second.

Korth paced an 18-point output in the pole vault, grabbing his own gold after clearing the bar at 12-feet, teammate Cole Heimes was right below him a 9-feet which was good for the silver medal. Korth also scored points in 110-meter hurdles where he placed fifth.

The Wildcat 4X400 team of Lammers, Ty Opfer, Dane Gotch and Jason Heimes placed eighth as did the 4X800 squad of Isaac Santiago, Jason Heimes, Gabriel Reyes and Gotch.

The Lady Wildcats showed improvement in the meet which didn’t translate into medals or points.
